Hope to spot Taylor Swift in New Orleans somewhere other than onstage at the Caesars Superdome this weekend?
Don’t count on it.
During what is essentially a business trip, she’ll likely keep an extremely low profile. Tens of millions of dollars, not to mention the fervent hopes of 150,000-plus ticket holders, are dependent on Swift performing as scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
If nothing else, the 34-year-old Swift has demonstrated throughout her career that she is a consummate professional. En route to becoming the world’s biggest pop star and top concert attraction, she has avoided the sort of personal pitfalls that have bedeviled others in her line of work.

Photographer Erika Goldring snapped a picture of Taylor Swift after the superstar left a tip for the band at Preservation Hall in New Orleans on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022.
Being a professional means putting on the best show possible for fans, many of whom have invested thousands of dollars in tickets, travel and lodging to see her in New Orleans.
To spend three-plus hours onstage for three consecutive nights, singing 45 or so songs while dancing and acting out theatrical representations of her lyrics, requires energy and focus — and thus rest.
So you won’t see Swift in the Pat O’Brien’s piano bar at 1 a.m. this weekend, or on Frenchmen Street, or at the Maple Leaf Bar.
From Friday morning through Sunday night, she’ll basically be on lockdown in a secure location.
Performers at her level don’t rush to the venue at the last minute. By midafternoon, long before traffic clogs the surrounding streets, she’ll be cocooned deep inside the Dome in a backstage compound built to her specifications.
The last leg of "The Eras Tour" saw her performing three nights in Miami this past weekend. After New Orleans, she moves on to Indianapolis for three nights, Nov. 1-3, at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Artists often linger in New Orleans while on tour. When the Rolling Stones played the Superdome in July 2019, they arrived nearly a week early, intending to spend a few days enjoying New Orleans food and music.
Unfortunately, Hurricane Barry scuttled those plans. Many restaurants closed ahead of the storm; Mick Jagger noted from the Superdome stage that he spent four days eating room service.

A screen grab of Taylor Swift's Instagram post from Dec. 13, 2022, showing her and producer Jack Antonoff inside Esplanade Studios in New Orleans on her 33rd birthday. She reportedly enjoyed a birthday cake from Bywater Bakery while in the studio that day.
When the Stones played the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 2, Jagger made up for his missed fun. He dined at Commander’s Palace and Antoine’s and returned to the Fair Grounds on May 4 to hear music at the Gospel Tent, the Blues Tent and elsewhere. Bandmate Ronnie Wood turned up at Preservation Hall to reunite with Irma Thomas hours after she sat in with the Stones at Jazz Fest.
Swift enjoyed a similar New Orleans food-and-music experience in December 2022. She and her then-boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn, reportedly spent a date night at Saba, chef Alon Shaya’s acclaimed Magazine Street restaurant. She also dined at N7, the neighborhood French restaurant and wine bar in Bywater.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, Swift caught the 6:15 p.m. set at Preservation Hall, the ancient traditional jazz shrine on St. Peter Street in the French Quarter that barely has room for 100 spectators. From a back-row pew, Swift watched as drummer Shannon Powell led a band that included clarinetist and saxophonist Charlie Gabriel, who was 90 years old at the time.
Three days later, on Dec. 13, 2022 — her 33rd birthday — Swift posted a photo on Instagram of herself and producer pal Jack Antonoff working at Esplanade Studios, a former church that has been converted to a recording studio. During a break at the studio, she enjoyed a “Lavender Haze Surprise” birthday cake from Bywater Bakery.
Even if she wanted to, Swift couldn’t return to Preservation Hall this week — it’s temporarily closed for renovations. The hall’s musicians are performing two shows-in-exile nightly at the nearby Toulouse Theatre.
But chances are, Swift won’t go see them at the Toulouse.
Because on this New Orleans trip, she’s got a job to do.
