Gonzales firefighters came to the rescue of a litter of kittens found at a storm drain, including one trapped inside.
Just before 7 p.m. Saturday, the Gonzales Fire Department as well as Rescue Alliance were contacted about the kittens, according to a statement from a Rescue Alliance spokesman.
Three of the kittens were found at the opening of the storm drain. A fourth kitten was trapped in the water below and was successfully retrieved by firefighters.
All four kittens are now under the care of Rescue Alliance and will receive medical attention.
"Stay tuned for updates as these little ones begin their journey toward finding their forever homes," the organization said in a Facebook post.
"We are incredibly grateful for the quick and heroic response of the Gonzales Fire Department," said Jonathan Henriques, director of operations of Rescue Alliance. "Their dedication ensured the safe rescue of these vulnerable kittens, and we are proud to work alongside such outstanding members of our community."
Rescue Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding homes for homeless and at-risk animals.
