On Thursday, the state's largest and most influential business lobby, the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, released its annual legislative scorecard, highlighting a group of 75 state lawmakers who voted in line with the organization's policy goals.
In a review of lawmakers' voting records on 27 pieces of legislation considered by the association to be "critical to Louisiana's business climate," four received scores of 100% for their voting records and all were Republicans.
They were Rep. Barbara Freiberg, R-Baton Rouge; Rep. Dixon McMakin, R-Baton Rouge; Rep. Michael Melerine, R-Shreveport; and Rep. Jerome Zeringue, R-Houma.
Some of the scored legislation included measures backed by the insurance industry, expansion of school-choice programs, and a framework for a constitutional conventional convention to make changes to the state's charter.
A group of 71 lawmakers were highlighted for voting records scored by LABI between 80% and 99%, including Senate President Henry Cameron, R-Metairie, and House Speaker Phillip DeVillier, R-Eunice.
In a statement, LABI President and CEO Will Green said the 2024 regular session "produced huge wins for Louisiana's business community," highlighting areas such as creating a competitive insurance market, workforce development initiatives, and expanded school-choice initiatives.
