Opera Louisiane has appointed Grammy Award-winning tenor Paul Groves as its new general director.

Groves, a Lake Charles native, brings with him an illustrious career that has graced the world’s leading opera houses and concert stages.

In addition to his international acclaim, Groves has maintained a strong connection to his roots as a dedicated educator, serving as a faculty member at LSU, where he has mentored the next generation of opera talent.

It also was at LSU where Groves’ journey in opera began, studying under Professor Robert Grayson. His talent quickly was recognized when he won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1991, leading to his debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1992 as Steuermann in "Der fliegende Holländer."

Paul Groves has been appointed general manager of Opera Louisiane.

Over the years, Groves has returned to the MET in such roles as Camille de Rosillon in "The Merry Widow" and Don Ottavio in "Don Giovanni," performing alongside legends like Placido Domingo, Renee Fleming and Susan Graham.

His career has taken him to prestigious stages across the United States, including the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Los Angeles Opera.

Internationally, Groves has performed at such major opera houses as La Scala, Opéra de Paris, Royal Opera Covent Garden and the Salzburg Festival, among many others. He also has collaborated with some of the world’s most respected orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.

As general director of Opera Louisiane, Groves will draw on his extensive artistic experience and his dedication to the art form to guide the company into a new chapter, enriching the cultural landscape of Baton Rouge.
