I was incensed to read that our governor’s attention is focused on getting Mike VII to enter Tiger Stadium instead of finding solutions to the many grave problems facing our state.
Dr. David Baker was Mike the Tiger’s veterinarian for over 25 years. He cared for every Mike during his time at LSU. He made the decision that it was in Mike’s best interest, both for his mental and physical well-being, to no longer be paraded before over 100,000 football fans screaming at the top of their lungs. I cannot imagine that Landry can legitimately claim he knows more about Mike’s needs and care than Baker.
My hope is the governor will turn his attention to our state’s real problems. Property insurance costs are placing home ownership in crisis. Taking public money to support private schools does nothing to improve public education. Health insurance costs are preventing Louisiana citizens from curative care. That’s just to name a few of our serious issues. Landry should focus his efforts on passing laws that improve the lives of our citizens and leave Mike VII alone. He is not qualified, nor is the Louisiana surgeon general, to make decisions about Mike’s best interests. They should follow Baker’s recommendations regarding Mike’s care. And then, they need to focus and keep their eyes on the ball.
